This is an Alberta Whitewater Association sanctioned event.
Trail Wave Rodeo 2024!!!
It’s been a long time since anyone had a proper rodeo at this famous fall boating spot!
Too long, if you ask us!
This year the local Columbia River Rats teamed up with the Alberta Playboaters League and Alberta Whitewater Association, who have been pushing freestyle east of us, to bring this thing back to life. Yes, we get that it is short notice, but would love to see you all out there on October 13th, 2024!
We’re aiming to start the competition at 11 on Sunday, which should even give out-of-towners plenty of time to dial in their tricks on Saturday and the morning of.
We’ll give more details on the day, but expect a jam session style qualifier and classic, two run finals. Scoring will follow both ICF systems as well as APL’s own scoring sheet, which should allow everyone to show off whatever they have! Bring your shudder rudders and side surfs, clean blunts and air screws, mcnasties and lunars, paddle guitars and party surfs.
Depending on levels we might have the unique option to pick between Hero Hole and Trail Wave for runs!
We’re trying to have a few small sponsors and prizes to hand out as well, stay tuned on that!
To attend and for us to be covered by insurance you’ll have to become a member of AWA ($15) and Sign AWA's Liability Waiver. CLICK HERE
PLEASE do this before coming out so we can have an idea of how many to expect.
Frankly, we don’t want to hang out in a parking lot collecting waivers as all of us are there to paddle as well!
Camping: The adjacent river side property has recently been purchased.
The access road goes through this property, so as of now we’re thinking that camping at the wave is not ideal.
We’re hoping that in the long term we can negotiate good access and maybe camping on site.
Most campgrounds are closed at that point, except for the Rossland Lion’s campground 15 minutes away. There’s also a few tent spots in Sven’s yard up in Rossland as well.
Weather depending, we could have a campground BBQ that night or maybe hit up the Flying Steamshovel as a big stinky kayaker’s mob!
